Arlecchino is the all-time favorite character from Commedia Dell'Arte. He is known for his acrobatic movements and silly antics. He is on the constant hunt for food while running around doing his master's bidding, often failing and being smacked around for it. Arlecchina is the female version. This piece was commissioned by a friend of the artist who specified asymmetry and dynamic expressions as her hopes for the mask. The winking eye in the image was later removed to increase sightlines.
